Final Stats
Burgandy McCurty set a career-high with 33 kills and she did it in just four sets as Siena blasted Canisius 3-1 (23-15, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14) in a key MAAC match Saturday in Loudonville. The Saints moved within just one victory of clinching a MAAC Tournament berth with three matches remaining.
Siena outside hitter Aubrey Bobo left the match in the first set, but McCurty more than picked up the slack.
The nation's leader in kills had one of the top matches in her remarkable career, tallying seven kills in the first set, 11 in the second, seven in the third and eight in the fourth.
Fellow co-captain Kau'i Robello was sensational in adjusting to Bobo's absence. She finished with a career-high 58 assists, added 10 digs and did not have a handling error in the match. Robello also turned to reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Sarah Sivertson who finished with 11 kills. Brittany Lintelman had nine kills in 20 attacks on the right side and freshmen Brennan Johnson and Amanda Sawlsville each had eight kills. Johnson came on strong after replacing Bobo, and Sawlsville controlled the middle when McCurty rotated to the back row.
Libero Lesli Akeo anchored the defense with a match-high 19 digs. Aimee Gosse had 18 digs and two aces, and Brianne Bobo joined Robello in double figures with 10.
Renee Lettow led Canisius with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Siena hit .296 for the match and controlled a 71-37 advantage in kills.
The Saints look to celebrate Senior Day tomorrow by clinching a MAAC Tournament berth when they face Niagara at 2 p.m. in a Time Warner televised match here in the ARC. Prior to the match, the Saints will celebrate the sensational careers of their two seniors, Robello and McCurty.
