Saints Extend Lead at MAAC Women's Golf Championships

The Siena women's golf team extended its lead to three shots overall over challenger Fairfield following the second round of the 2009 MAAC Women's Golf Championships Saturday at Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Fla. Defending individual champion Katelynn Mannix continues to lead the field as well in her quest for a second straight individual crown.

The Saints shot a second round team score of 344, one better than the 345 shot by the Stags. With 18 holes remaining Sunday of the scheduled 54-hole event, Siena (689) increased its overall lead to three strokes over Fairfield (392).

Mannix was the only player under 80 on a windy Saturday, shooting 78 for the round to increase her overall lead over teammate Catherine Shomo to ten strokes. The nearest Fairfield competitor in the individual standings is Christina Destefano who is 12 shots off the lead.

Senior captain Bridget Carr also remains in the top-5 representing the Saints following a second consecutive round of 87 on Saturday.

The Saints go for their record ninth consecutive MAAC Championship Sunday when final round action concludes.
