The Siena volleyball team split two matches Saturday on the final day of play in the Syracuse Big Orange Tournament. The Saints lost to the host Orange 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) before sweeping New Hampshire (25-21, 25-18, 25-12). Senior middle blocker Burgandy McCurty was named to the All-Tournament team.
Kacie MacTavish and Sarah Morton led Syracuse to an easy win in the Saints (1-2) first match of the day. MacTavish had 12 kills to join McCurty with a match-high, and Morton killed seven of her 15 attacks. MacTavish rounded out a double-double with 12 digs.
Siena could never threaten against the Orange, reaching a match-high 17 points in the third set. McCurty was the only Saint to record more than three kills, though twin sisters Aubrey and Brianne Bobo had 12 digs apiece.
The nightcap was a much different story as Siena controlled the action from start to finish. McCurty was the only player to reach double figure kills, finishing 15 of her 25 attacks to post a season-high .520 attack percentage.
Aubrey Bobo had eight kills and 16 digs, registering a .438 attack percentage. Freshman setter Sarah Sivertson played the best match of her young career recording 31 assists, 10 digs and a .500 attack percentage.
The Saints got stronger as the match went on, winning the first set 25-21, the second 25-18 and the decisive third set 25-12.
Siena will now enjoy a 10-day break before returning to the hardwood at St. John's on September 8.
