Siena opened play in the Courtyard LaGuardia Volleyball Classic on Friday with a 3-0 loss to SEC power Georgia at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center on the campus of tournament host Long Island University.

Georgia (6-2) earned the sweep over Siena (1-4) with set scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-20, and for the match, the Bulldogs posted a .215 hitting percentage while holding the Saints to a .061 mark.

Burgandy McCurty tallied 11 kills in defeat for Siena. Aubrey Bobo had 10.

Junior outside hitter Erika Clark and sophomore setter Kathleen Gates guided the Bulldogs to the victory with a pair of double-double performances. Clark tied for the match-high with McCurty, posting 11 kills while leading UGA with a season-high 12 digs for her first double-double of 2009, and Gates set UGA's offense with 30 assists to go along with a season-high 11 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Lesli Akeo's posted a match-best 13 digs for the Saints.

In set one, Georgia built an early 7-4 lead, but Siena used a 4-0 run to go up 8-7. The Bulldogs answered with a 7-2 run to go up by four at 14-10. After the Saints took the next two points, the Bulldogs closed the set on an 11-4 run to win it by nine at 25-16. Clark and May paced UGA in the set with five and four kills, respectively, and UGA hit .387 as a team in the frame.

Siena opened the second set jumping out to a 5-1 lead, but Georgia battled back and went ahead at 10-9. The Saints scored the next point to knot it at 10, but the Bulldogs went right back up and would not surrender the advantage going on to win the frame by six at 25-19. In the set, the Bulldogs hit .219 as a team with 12 kills and just five errors while limiting the Saints to a .000 hitting percentage with 11 kills and 11 errors.

Georgia never trailed in the third set, and only allowed two early ties two-all and six-all. UGA would lead by as many as seven points in the third frame at 21-14 en route to winning the set and match, 25-20.

Siena will play two more matches in the Courtyard LaGuardia Volleyball Classic on Saturday against Colgate and host LIU.
