Jan. 10, 2010

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena steamrolled Fairfield in the second half and ran away with a 67-50 victory Sunday afternoon, securing second place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with its first road win of the season. Sarah Fullmer and Serena Moore each scored 17 points as Siena's post players dominated Fairfield's, outscoring them 36-12 in the paint and limiting their starting front court to 5-of-26 from the field.

Siena (5-8, 3-1) opened the second half with an 11-4 run and stifled Fairfield's (8-7, 2-2) offense throughout. The Stags shot 25% from the field in the second half and 29.8% in the game. Siena made half its shots in the second half (14-of-28).

Siena held Fairfield without a field goal for the final six minutes of the game and outscored the Stags 13-0 going away.

Fairfield started the game 0-for-5 from the field and had three turnovers before they made a shot, allowing Siena to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Freshmen Katelyn Linney and Brittany MacFarlane carried their team in the first half as they combined for 20 of the team's 27 points. Linney made 4-of-5 3-pointers and scored 12 points while MacFarlane scored eight.

Sophomore Cristina Centeno scored eight points and had four rebounds in the first half.

The teams were tied 27-27 at halftime.

Senior forward and two-time MAAC Player of the Week Stephanie Geehan was held scoreless in the first half and she finished with just four points on 2-of-10 shooting.

Siena's guards created easy buckets early in the second half, driving and dishing to Moore for layups on three consecutive possessions. Moore finished with her fourth double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds).

Fairfield came within four points (54-50) at the 5:37 mark when Desiree Pina made all three foul shots after she was fouled by Cathy Cockrum. Fairfield wouldn't score again.

Volpe scored all nine of her points in the second half and led the team with five assists.

This was Siena's first win at Fairfield since its thrilling 56-55 win over the Stags in the 2007 MAAC Tournament quarterfinals and the largest margin of victory in a road game since February 5, 2006 (Siena 78, Rider 49).

The Saints return to action Saturday when they play Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
