Final Stats
Siena had more kills and more total points than Marist, but for the second straight day found itself on the losing end in the only tally that matters. The Red Foxes won three close sets to pull out a 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 13-25 and 25-22) win over the Saints in Poughkeepsie Sunday.
Siena (4-13/3-5) was much more balanced on offense Sunday, getting 12 kills from Taylor Akana, nine from Brianne Bobo, eight from Brittany Lintelman and six each from Brennan Johnson and Sarah Sivertson.
Akana added 12 digs to complete her sixth double-double of the season.
Siena also showed improvement with its service, registering nine aces and eight errors. Libero Lesli Akeo led all players with 20 digs.
Grace Hill posted a match-high 13 kills to pace Marist (10-10/5-3).
The first set was competitive throughout with Marist pulling ahead slightly at the midway point, and maintaining a small advantage the rest of the way. The Red Foxes won the second set, following consecutive Akana attack errors with the score tied at 23-23. Siena just crushed Marist after the intermission, taking the third set 25-13, but the Red Foxes regrouped to take the decisive fourth set 25-22 despite a late Siena rally.
Siena hits the road next weekend to play Iona and Fairfield.
