Fairfield won its 14th straight home match by handing Siena its fifth consecutive loss Sunday in Connecticut. The Saints and Stags played two highly competitive sets before Fairfield ran away with the third to complete the sweep (27-23, 25-23 and 25-12).
Haililani Pokipala had her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 12 kills on .357 hitting to go along with 12 digs for Fairfield (8-13, 7-3). Brianna Dixion added 10 kills on .304 hitting with two blocks.
Siena (4-15/3-7) had a set point in the opener following a Colleen Ahearn kill, but could not capiatlize. Fairfield tied the set on a service error, took the lead on an attack error, and claimed a 27-25 win with a Pokipala kill.
Ahearn finished with eight kills and hit .500 for the match to lead the Saints.
Siena took a 19-16 lead in the second set, but Fairfield battled back again. The Stags tied the set 20-20 thnaks to a couple more Siena attack errors, and after exchanging points, another Siena attack error gave Fairfield the lead to stay.
Siena had 26 costly hitting errors in the match, compared to just 11 for Fairfield.
Fairfield also out-blocked Siena by a margin of 7.0 to 1.5 on the day.
Fairfield hit .500 to roll in the third set. The Stags surged out to the 7-2 lead to prompt a Siena timeout. After the break, Fairfield extended its lead to 14-5 forcing Siena to call its second time out.
Siena returns homs next weekend to host Rider and Loyola.
