Akana's 30 Kills Not Enough

Oct. 2, 2010

Final Stats

Siena had two match points in the decisive fifth set, but couldn't finish things off. The result was a disappointing 3-2 (25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 17-15) loss at Loyola University Maryland Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Akana had a career-high 30 kills and 18 digs, hitting .277 for the match, but the Saints (3-11, 2-3) couldn't overcome 17 service errors. Setter Elizabeth Ives was whistled for four ball handling errors, including two in a four-point stretch late in the fifth set, the final of which came with Siena holding a 14-12 lead.

Loyola (7-12/1-4) tied the fifth set on a Nina Camaioni kill, her first of three straight to clinch the match for the Greyhounds. Camaioni finished with 19 kills to pace the Greyhounds.

Camaioni was one of three Greyhounds (7-12 overall, 1-4 MAAC) who finished with 10 or more kills. Katie Dircks added 12 kills and 15 digs, while Nicole Sarby had 11 kills.

Libero Lesli Akeo had 21 digs of Siena's 59 digs, but the Greyhounds held a 10-5 advantage in blocks.

Ives finished with 41 sets, five kills and seven digs. The aggressive-serving Saints had six players post multiple service errors.

The Saints return to action Sunday at Rider.
