Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After winning their first 12 games of the season, Siena Women's Soccer has hit a bit of a rough patch. The Green and Gold dropped their third straight conference game falling 2-1 to MAAC leading Marist tonight here at Tenney Stadium and Leonidoff Field. Lindsay Tegas accounted for the Saints' goal.

Both teams put early scores on the board. Marist (10-7, 6-1) found of the back of the cage first just 1:57 into the match. Jackie Frey lost and then repossessed a ball deep down the right side and sent a perfect cross in front which was booted in out of mid-air by Jaclynn Sabia to make it 1-0 Foxes.

Siena (13-3, 4-3) wasted no time in answering back though as the Saints tied things up at the 9:59 mark. Following a turnover on a throw-in by Marist deep in their zone, Brittany Pfaff gained possession in the middle of the field and beautifully led in Tegas who beat her defender unmarked down the left side. Tegas finished her run and made it in alone, beating the keeper far post for her fifth goal of the season.

In the second half however, the Saints struggled to maintain possession which led to several Marist chances. In the 56', Marist reclaimed the lead for good. Following a Siena turnover deep in their own defensive end, Daniella Burns claimed possession and quickly fired a shot past Siena keeper Elizabeth Barna for her first tally of the season.

The Saints fought hard in the final minutes to create chances but ultimately could not crack the Marist defense. Marist out-shot Siena 19-11 and took four corners to the Saints' one.

In a game that turned physical late, Marist committed 20 fouls to the Saints' 13. Jamie Balzarini made four saves in goal to earn the win for Marist while Barna stopped three shots for Siena.

The Saints look to regroup when they return to Siena Field Friday when they host Fairfield. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
