Final Stats
Elizabeth Ives had seven of Siena's 17 services aces to help the Saints bounce back from a 3-2 loss at Loyola Maryland Saturday with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 27-25) win over Rider Sunday in Lawrenceville. The Saints squared their MAAC record at 3-3 with the victory.
Siena (4-11/3-3) needed to rally after dropping the first set 25-17 to the Broncs (1-14/0-6). They did so by taking the second set 25-17, the third 25-19 and the fourth 27-25.
Taylor Akana led all players with 20 kills. Her final kill gave the Saints a 26-25 lead in the decisive fourth set, and she then ended the match with a service ace.
Siena has lived and died by its aggressive service all season. On Sunday the Saints had 17 aces and just four errors, pulling a complete 180 from their 17-error, four-ace effort in Saturday's loss at Loyola Maryland.
Leslia Akeo led three Saints with double figure digs, registering 17 on the day. Brianne Bobo had 13 and Sarah Horvath played her best match of the season, tallying 11 of the Saints' 68 digs.
Siena needed its serving and defense as the offense hit just .088 for the match. Akana had 20 of the team's 42 kills, which were three short of Rider's 45.
Katelyn Thompson led the Broncs with 17 kills, but Rider couldn't overcome its 11 service errors and remained winless in the league.
The Saints return home Saturday when they host Manhattan at 2 p.m.
