Sacred Heart Dispatches Saints

Dec. 12, 2010

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Siena's first of three trips this season to Fairfield County was not a pleasant one. Sacred Heart scored 23 of the games' first 25 points and led by as many as 47 in a 72-33 rout of the Saints at the William H. Pitt Center. Freshman Clara Sole Anglada was one of the few bright spots and made the most of her first extended action, posting career-highs of 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals in 16 minutes off the bench.

Alisa Apo led three Sacred Heart (5-4) scorers in double figures with a game-high 22 points - 10 of which came during the Pioneers' 23-2 run to open the game. Siena (1-6) was held to just one field goal on 20 attempts (5%) in the first half, coming on a Cristina Centeno NBA range three at the 8:55 mark.

With the game out of reach in the second half, the Saints put in the majority of their freshman class which showed some strong signs and finished the game well. In addition to Anglada, Kate Zarotney added four points and seven rebounds in 18 high-energy minutes off the bench.

Unfortunately, Siena could not muster much else in the second half and although they played better towards the end, finished the game shooting just 10-for-51 (19.6%) and committed 24 turnovers while dishing out just two assists.

The 33 points scored by the Saints were an all-time program low during the Division I era and the 39-point defeat was the largest since an 86-41 setback against then eighth ranked Duke on Dec. 20, 2008.

In addition to Apo, Sacred Heart received strong contributions throughout as 11 different players scored including Kiley Evans (11 points) and Callan Taylor (10) who added double-digit efforts.

Siena has ten days off to regroup before welcoming UC Santa Barbara to the ARC for Kid's Day on Dec. 22. The first-ever meeting between the Saints and Gauchos takes place at 11 a.m.
