LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Siena grinded out its second road win of the season, defeating Rider 58-48 at Alumni Gymnasium Friday evening. Senior guard Allie Lindemann led all players with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and the Siena defense held Rider to just 25% shooting from the field.
Lindemann hit two 3-pointers in the first five minutes and her first three attempts of the game.
Siena (10-16, 8-9) went through a six-minute drought in the first half where they didn't score a field goal. Rider's (4-24, 2-15) Amanda Sepulveda hit a 3-pointer to put her team in front 21-20, but it was short-lived as Serena Moore made a layup on the next possession and Siena never trailed again.
Lindemann hit a transition 3-pointer to end the first half and send the Saints into the locker room up 27-24. Rider had the ball at the top of the key and Cristina Centeno swiped the ball and drew multiple defenders going the other way. She heaved a pass to Lindemann sitting wide open in the right corner and Lindemann drilled it.
Siena led for most of the game and the entire second half, but Rider kept it close throughout.
The Saints contained Sepulveda, Rider's leading scorer, to 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field. Five-time MAAC Rookie of the Week Caitlin Bopp scored just seven points on 3-of-12 shooting from the field. Bopp was in foul trouble after picking up her third foul less than two minutes into the second half and her fourth with 10:23 left in the game.
Siena forced timely turnovers and made its free throws in the final minutes. Rider turned the ball over three times in a two-minute span and Siena made 12-of-14 free throws in the last five minutes.
Moore finished with 14 points. Centeno had eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The Saints conclude the regular season at Loyola on Sunday. Tip is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
