Final Stats
The Siena volleyball team travelled nearly 3,000 miles to partake in the Oregon Invitational this weekend. Perhaps the team's performance Saturday can be attributed to jetlag. American University smoked the Saints in straight sets (25-14, 25-8, 25-17) Saturday at McArthur Court, handing the team its sixth loss in seven matches this season.
In the team comparison, American (7-2) hit .326 compared with -.051 for Siena (1-6) and also held advantages in kills (38-17), aces (13-1), digs (31-28) and blocks (14.5-5).
Individually, the Eagles were led in five categories by sophomore middle blocker Bianca Richardson (9 kills, .467, 6 blocks, four aces, 16 points). Sophomore setter Krysta Cicala added team highs in assists (33) aces (4) and digs (7), and senior right side hitter Cassandra Ricketts posted five kills, hit .833 and posted three blocks.
Siena's category leaders included freshman outside hitter Taylor Akana (8 kills, 8.5 points), sophomore outside hitter Brennan Johnson (.154), sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Brown (1 ace), sophomore libero Lesli Akeo (12 digs) and senior right side hitter Blair Atkins (3 blocks).
Looking ahead, Siena faces No. 19 Oregon (7-0) Sunday, September 12 at noon (3 p.m. Eastern) in the tourney finale at McArthur Court.
