Final Stats
Siena didn't have it's `A' game Saturday in the ARC, but the Saints did enough to sweep MAAC foe Saint Peter's (25-23, 25-22 and 25-19), setting the stage for an intriguing early season league home match with Fairfield here tomorrow.
Taylor Akana had 16 kills and 13 digs and Siena's (3-9/2-1) back row compiled 62 digs with libero Libero Lesli Akeo led the way with 19 digs.
Saint Peter's (4-10/0-3) hung tough, holding leads deep into all three sets. Stephanie Phillips had 10 kills and 11 digs to pace the Peahens. Saint Peter's also played well on defense, registering 10 team blocks and 48 digs.
Neither team hit with precision, with Siena recording a .132 attack percentage and Saint Peter's hitting just .087 for the match. The Saints had 23 attack errors and seven service errors, a disturbing trend that started with their loss to Binghamton on Wednesday. Saint Peter's gave away nine services and had 18 attack errors against just 28 kills.
Senior southpaw Blair Atkins had a nice match on the opposite side, landing nine kills and getting involved with three blocks. Classmate Brittany Lintelman had five kills in just 12 attacks in the middle.
The Saints will take their second league win in three tries this year, but the feeling around the lockerroom seems to be an improved effort will be necessary to contend with their archrival tomorrow.
