Harvard Shuts Down Siena

Oct. 11, 2011

Box Score

Siena Women's Soccer dropped its non-conference finale Tuesday night, suffering a 2-0 shutout defeat at Harvard. Despite the loss, the Saints finished with a winning non-conference record (5-3) for a fourth straight season.

Harvard (8-4-1), which with an RPI of 68 was the highest rated team the Saints (7-5) have faced this season, controlled tempo throughout. The Crimson out-shot Siena 18-4 and held a 5-1 edge in corners.

After playing to a scoreless first half, Harvard broke through just three minutes into the second stanza on Hana Taiji's first goal of the season. Elizabeth Weisman added an insurance tally in the 77th minute.

Siena was unable to counter as the Green and Gold failed to put a shot on goal in suffering just their second shutout of the season. Freshman Maria Jones, one of the heroes from the Saints' win Sunday, led the offense with two of the team's four shots.

Classmate Taylor Booth got the start in goal, playing the first half and saved the only shot on goal she faced. Erin Kelly played the second half and was saddled with the loss despite making three saves.

The Saints return to action Friday night when they continue their three-game road trip at Loyola. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Baltimore.
