Final Stats
If the Siena volleyball team wins its final match of the regular-season at home against Manhattan Sunday, the team will earn the No. 3 seed in next weekend's MAAC Championships. The Saints continued their improbable run from the bottom of the standings with their eighth league win in nine tries Saturday, an easy 3-0 (25-15, 25-16 and 25-13) sweep of winless Saint Peter's.
It's possible the Saints could lose Sunday and still advance to next week's four-team championships in Jersey City, but with five teams still vying for two spots, that road is far less certain.
Siena defeated Manhattan 3-1 in Riverdale last month; a victory that was the catalyst for the team's explosive resurgence.
On Saturday, Siena overpowered the Peahens with its service. The Saints racked up 10 aces, and won several more points with hard serves that kept Saint Peter's from establishing any sort of attack.
Taylor Akana was the only player for either team to reach double-figures in kills, matching her number with 12. The Peahens managed just 19 as a team.
Libero Lesli Akeo was honored pre-match with a ball commemorating her 1,000th dig, and then emerged as the only player in the match to reach double digits in the category.
Jacqueline Skeen killed nine of her 16 attacks in the middle, and Elizabeth Ives was efficient as well, finishing five her nine tries on the right side.
The match lasted just over an hour, allowing head coach Garvey Pierre's team plenty of time to regroup for tomorrow's huge finale.
