Final Stats
Sophomore Taylor Akana made sure Siena's opening MAAC volleyball weekend ended on a positive note. The Hawaiian registered a career-best 32-kills in the Saints' 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-23) road win over Rider Sunday.
Akana rounded out her sixth double-double of the season with 11 digs. It was just the second 30-kill performance of her stellar career.
Siena held on late, as the Broncs scored four straight points after trailing 24-19 in the fourth set, before freshman Rachel Stoklosa finished the match with a kill.
The Saints won two tightly contested sets to take a 2-0 lead to intermission, but Rider regrouped to win the third set 25-21.
Jacklyn Weber kept Rider close throughout, finishing with 17 kills and 16 digs.
Akana was the only Saint with double figure kills, but junior Colleen Ahearn killed seven of her 16 attempts without a single error. Jasmine Brown collected seven kills, 14 digs and four blocks. Libero Lesli Akeo was a stalwart on the defensive end, leading all players with 29 digs.
The Saints will play their next three matches at home, beginning with a 2 p.m. contest against Iona Saturday. Archrival Fairfield comes to town Sunday.
