Senior Lesli Akeo led all players with 26 digs, including the benchmark 2,000th dig of her stellar career, and Siena knocked off Loyola in four sets (25-21, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-17) Saturday at the ARC. Fellow Hawaiian Taylor Akana keyed Siena's most efficient offensive performance (.429 hitting percentage) since a Nov. 11, 2007 win over Marist (.556) with 22 kills and no errors.
Akeo is one of five players in MAAC history to eclipse 2,000 digs, and the first Saint to do so.
Still, Siena's offense took center stage Saturday.
Akana and sophomore Rachel Stoklosa combined for 35 kills and just one error on the outside. Jacqueline Skeen killed 10 of her 15 attacks and added six blocks, and Colleen Ahearn reached double figures in kills for the sixth straight match with 14.
Setter Sarah Sivertson led the balanced effort with 57 assists, and she killed three of her eight dumps without an error.
In total, Siena had 70 kills and just 13 hitting errors in 133 attacks. The Saints needed to be at the top of their game, because Loyola put up a game effort.
Faye Lukas, the MAAC's leader in kills, led four Greyhounds in double figures with 14 kills. Mindy Maloney and Jac Bullock had 11 kills, and Tina Catanach came off the bench to post 10.
Siena controlled the first set 25-21, and hit .515 to take a tight second set 25-22. Loyola fired back after intermission with a 25-22 victory in the third set, but Siena played some of its best volleyball of the season in dominating the fourth set 25-17.
Akeo led all players with 26 digs. Her 2,000th came midway through the third set. Akana and Stoklosa posted double doubles. Akana had seven of her 11 digs in the first set, and Stoklosa finished with 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
Siena will look to ride the momentum of their fourth straight home win into Sunday's 2 p.m. match against Rider.
