Final Stats
If the Siena volleyball team wins its ninth MAAC Championship this season it will have to find a way to do something it hasn't done in five years: win at Fairfield's Alumni Hall. The Stags avenged a four-set loss to Siena last month with a four-set home win today at the site of this year's MAAC Championships.
At 4-3 in MAAC play, the Saints can't afford to think about postseason play.
Fairfield edged Siena 26-24 in each of the first two sets to assume control of Saturday's match.
Rachel Romansky orchestrated a balanced attack with 48 assists, setting five Fairfield plays to double digit kills.
Siena regrouped at intermission, and showed character in the third set, cruising to a 25-21 win.
Colleen Ahearn led all players with 17 kills and a .517 attack percentage. She killed six of her nine attacks in the third set without an error. Jacqueline Skeen also enjoyed some success in the middle, killing eight of her 17 attacks.
Siena struggled to find its way on the outside. Taylor Akana registered a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, and Rachel Stoklosa added 10 kills and nine digs, but neither player finished at an efficient clip.
Libero Lesli Akeo had 29 digs to lead all players. Sarah Sivertson had 45 assists.
Caitlin Stapleton killed 12 of her 21 attacks to lead Fairfield.
The road doesn't get any easier for Siena. The Saints face Iona in a MAAC match tomorrow in New Rochelle. The Gaels are undefeated at home this season.
