After two rounds of play, Siena women's golf is now 18 holes away from the program's 12th straight MAAC Championship. Meanwhile, the Siena men improved position, moving from a tie for eighth to sixth during Saturday's play in Orlando, Fla.
On the women's side, Victoria Nguyen and Kylie Strijek led the Saints on day two, and as a result also lead the individual standings. Nguyen's second-round 74 gave her a three-shot lead over her teammate, who fired a 76. Meanwhile, Katie Nelson also carded a 76 to tie for sixth, while Cortney Tilley shot 80 to move into sole possession of eighth.
As a team, the Saints are 32 shots ahead of second-place Fairfield with 18 holes to go. If Siena hangs on, the program would win its 12th consecutive MAAC Championship, and also earn their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The Siena men were led by Justin Deitz, whose second-round 69 tied for the low score of the day. The senior is now tied for fourth, three shots off the lead. John Van Vranken was next best for Siena, signing for a 76 and improving 11 shots from Friday to Saturday in the process. As a team, the Saints are 19 shots behind fifth-place Iona, while Loyola holds a 12-shot lead over second-place Saint Peter's.
The tournament concludes Sunday with the third round of play.
