Siena Seventh at Brown Invitational

April 9, 2012

Siena is seventh after Sunday's first round of the Brown Invitational at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I. Victoria Nguyen's first-round 80 led the way for the Green and Gold, and put her in sole possession of 16th place.

Nguyen started slow with a front-nine 43, but turned it around with a back-nine 37, which tied for the third-lowest back nine total of the day. Princeton's Kelly Shon leads the individual standings after signing for a 71.

Fellow freshman Katie Nelson was next best for Siena, tying for 19th after a first-round 82. As a team, Siena was dealt a blow when reigning MAAC Women's Golfer of the Month Cortney Tilley had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. The Saints are 33 shots behind team leader St. John's, which had four team members shoot rounds of 78 or better on Sunday.

Play finishes Monday in Barrington.
