Final Stats
Taylor Akana had 38 kills and 21 digs in wins over Princeton (3-2; 27-25, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 16-14) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (3-0; 25-14, 25-21, 25-15) Saturday at the Hofstra Invitational, helping Siena even its young record to 4-4. Sophomore Rachel Stoklosa earned All-Tournament recognition after averaging 2.9 kills and 1.9 digs on the weekend.
The Saints (4-4) led Princeton two sets to none in their first match of the day before the Tigers rallied. After taking the first two sets 27-25 and 25-20, Princeton won the third set 25-21 and the fourth 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set.
Siena led the fifth set 14-10 before Princeton rallied to tie it at 14-14. Stoklosa took over at that point, rising for a kill to set up match point, and then serving the Saints to victory behind a kill from Jacqueline Skeen.
Skeen had 18 kills and five blocks in the Princeton match. Akana led all players with 23 kills, and rounded out a double-double with 15 digs. Senior Colleen Ahearn added 12 kills and three blocks, and Sarah Sivertson picked up the setting duties with 46 assists.
Elizabeth Ives had a double-double with 14 assists and 14 digs, and libero Lesli Akeo anchored the defense with a match-high 26 digs.
Nicole Kincade had 15 kills and 10 blocks for Princeton.
Akana and Skeen were the only players to reach double figures kills in the sweep of winless St. Francis (0-9). Akana had 15 kills and hit .344, Skeen finished with 10 kills and a .412 attack percentage.
Sivertson assisted on 44 of Siena's 51 kills and added eight digs. Ives had 12 kills and four aces, and Akeo led all players with 18 digs, helping Siena out-dig the Terriers 56-33.
The Saints return to Tournament play next weekend with three matches in the Colgate Invitational.
