LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Kanika Cummings scored 13 points and Tehresa Colesadded nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds as Siena Women's Basketball concluded non-conference play with a 49-41 win over Binghamton at the ARC. With the victory, Siena secures its first non-conference winning record in 11 years.
Cummings shot 3-for-4 from beyond the arc including a back-breaking triple that put Siena (5-4) up 12 with six minutes left. Siena clinches its first non-conference winning season since posting a 7-3 record during the 2002-03 campaign.
Siena shot at just a 26.2% clip and Binghamton (1-10) at 27.1%, but the Saints hit shots when they needed them most.
Kelsey Booth's three gave Siena its biggest lead of the first half, 24-15 at the 6:05 mark. The Bearcats held Siena without a field goal for the remainder of the half, but could not capitalize and only whittled the deficit to 26-23 at the break.
Siena opened the second half on an 11-2 run, all but putting the game away. Coles banged a three to give Siena its biggest lead of the afternoon at 37-25 at the 15:42 mark and the Saints would never lead by fewer than seven points the rest of the way.
Siena's blizzard defense was strong again, swiping 15 steals and forcing 24 turnovers. The Saints held Binghamton to just 5-21 (23.8%) shooting in the second half in holding the Bearcats to the fewest points allowed during the Ali Jaquesera.
Vaneeshia Paulk led Binghamton with 11 points and Sherae Swinson added 10 points for the Bearcats which fell to 0-4 against MAAC schools this season.
Following a solid non-conference portion of the season, Siena will look to carry over momentum to its 25th season in the MAAC. The Saints open conference play Sunday at Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y. at 2 p.m.
