HAMDEN, CONN. – Freshmen forwards Aryn McClure and Paula Strautmane scored 18 points apiece as defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac upended Siena Women's Basketball 94-52 at the TD Bank Sports Center. Red-shirt sophomore guard Denisha Petty-Evans led the Saints with 14 points.
Quinnipiac (11-7, 6-3) led by as many as 46 points, dominating all facets of the game to win their sixth straight. The Bobcats scored the final 14 points of the first quarter to take a 25-8 lead and were off and running from there. Quinnipiac shot 64.3% (18-28) in the first half to take a 30-point lead at the break, 47-17.
McClure shot 7-8 from the field and added 11 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season for the Bobcats which have won each of the first six meetings against Siena (11-9, 8-2) by double figures and by an average of 21.3 points. Strautmane recorded 15 of her season-high 18 points in the second half for Quinnipiac which improved to 45-5 in its last 50 home games.
Freshman guard Jackie Benitez and junior captain Meghan Donohue each added nine points for the Saints which shot just 28.8% from the field including 1-14 from three.
Morgan Manz (13) and Sarah Shewan (12) each contributed double figures off the bench for the Bobcats which shot 55.2% for the game and dished out 25 assists on 32 made field goals.
The Saints continue their three-game road trip at perennial MAAC power Marist Thursday at 5 p.m. in Poughkeepsie.
