LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Swimming hosted the Holy Cross Crusaders tonight in their first home meet of the season. Freshman Rachel Brown and junior Fiona Dretzka picked up two wins each for the Saints who won eight of the 16 events.
Holy Cross started the meet with two wins the 400 medley relay and the 1000 freestyle. Siena's Brown scored her first victory of the night in the 200 freestyle (1:59.60). Classmate Larissa Nanna picked up another win for the Saints two events later in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.96). Junior Erica Askew finished right behind Nanna in second place (1:11.64).
Sophomore Elizabeth Fournier added a first place finish for the Saints in 200 butterfly (2:15.74). Julianna Sebastian finished third (2:23.13) in the event for Siena.
Brown won her second race of the meet in the 100 freestyle (55.28). Alyssa Lewis and Brigid Wynne picked up points in the event, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Dretzka won the 200 backstroke for the Saints (2:14.15) and Askew picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.55) just ahead of teammate Nanna.
Dretzka's second win of the meet came in the 200 IM (2:18.69). Nanna finished the race in third place (2.22.17) with Emma Rupert just behind her in fourth (2:22.47).
The Saints closed out the final event of the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Lewis, Colleen McDonough, Katie Ludwicki, and Maggie Fletcher.
The Crusaders won the meet by just ten points, 149-139. Siena won eight swimming events, while Holy Cross won six swimming events and both diving events. Siena did not compete in diving.
The Saints will head to Vestal, N.Y. to compete against Binghamton and Niagara on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m. Siena will return home on Saturday, October 29 to host Vermont at 1 p.m.
