LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Volleyball defeated Marist 3-1 (25-23, 28-26, 20-25, 25-15) in the Alumni Recreation Center. Marist led the match in kills, assists, and digs, while Siena took control and dominated in blocks and service aces.
Marist (7-14, 7-4 MAAC) started the first set with a 7-4 advantage. Behind the serving of Haley Howell, the Saints (6-16, 5-7 MAAC) were able to tie the set at nine. Both teams just exchanged points back-and-forth until the set was tied 23-23. After two attack errors by the Red Foxes, Siena took the first set 25-23.
Just like in the first set the two teams went back-and-forth with points. Both teams wanted a conference win late in the season to help with the tournament push. Marist went up 13-10 and continued to hold the advantage. Siena was down 23-21 before rallying from behind to tie the set 24-24. After each team exchanged set points, the Saints claimed set two with a 28-26 victory.
The Red Foxes came out strong in the third set and led 12-7. Siena chipped away at the lead, but Marist would not falter and held on with a 19-15 lead. The Saints were not able to stop Marist as they took the third set 25-20.
Siena started the fourth set with a 6-1 lead and would not look back from there. It would be a dominating set for the Saints as they continued to lead 15-8. The Saints went on a 5-0 run to take a big 20-8 lead. The Red Foxes were not done and fought back hard. Siena would maintain control and took the fourth set and match 25-15.
Briana Flagg led the Siena offense with 17 kills, while Julia Burzynski added 10. Haley Howell dished out 42 of the Saint's 48 assists. Kalehua Katagiri tallied a team-high 24 digs, while Bobbi Lin Kalama added 14 and Howell recorded 12.
Brittney Herrick recorded one solo block and five block assists for Siena, while Samantha Pethokoukis tallied three block assists. Shantraie Rodriguez also helped the defense with one solo block and five block assists. Burzynski tallied two solo blocks and one block assists.
