Siena Swimming began its ECAC title defense Friday night in East Meadow, New York. The Saints are currently in sixth place after the first of three days of competition. Day one consisted of one diving and two swimming events. There are a total of 13 schools competing in the women's meet.
Siena opened the contest with a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:50.57). Fiona Dretzka, Larissa Nanna, Elizabeth Fournier, and Colleen McDonough swam for the Saints in the event, picking up 52 points.
In the final event of the first night, the 1650 freestyle, sophomore Emma Rupert scored 25 points for the Saints with her fifth place finish (18:08.89). Freshman Carrie Bonvissuto added 17 more with a tenth place finish (18:34.44) and junior Clare Bryar finished in 19th (18:56.33) giving Siena 100 total points on day one.
Southern Connecticut State leads the women's competition with 146 total points through three events.
The ECAC Championships continue on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, with the first event scheduled for 10 a.m. both days in East Meadow.
