Pioneers Swim Past Saints on Senior Day

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Swimming dropped its final home meet of the season Saturday to the visiting LIU Post Pioneers. Siena honored its five seniors in a special ceremony before the meet. Sophomore Elizabeth Fournier picked up a victory for the Saints in the 200 butterfly.

In the team's first meet since December 4, Siena opened with a second and fourth place finish in the 400 medley relay. Fiona Dretzka, Erica Askew, Fournier, and Alyssa Lewis (4:13.30) represented the Saints' top team.

Next, in the 1000 free, Emma Rupert (11:02.06), Carrie Bonvissuto (11:27.80), and Clare Bryar (11:45.53) finished second, third, and fourth respectively to pick up nine points for Siena. Freshman Katie Ludwicki led the Saints with a second place finish (2:02.87) in the 200 freestyle in the next race.

Senior co-captain Colleen McDonough led Siena in the 50 freestyle, finishing second (26.14) ahead of teammate Maggie Davenport in fifth (26.34). Dretzka was the Saints' top finisher in the 200 IM with her second place finish (2:20.47). Askew finished the race just behind Dretzka in third (2:21.99).

Fournier picked up the Saints' lone victory of the meet in the 200 butterfly (2:14.71). Julianna Sebastian (2:17.88) and Maggie Fletcher (2:19.67) rounded out the top three times in the race, giving Siena 16 total points in the event.

Dretzka picked up another runner up (2:16.20) in the 200 backstroke and Rupert added a second place finish (5:30.60) in the 500 freestyle. Askew recorded the top time for the Saints (2:35.21), and second best overall, in the final individual event of the day, the 200 breaststroke.

Siena ended the meet finishing second (1:44.59) in the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Ludwicki, Lewis, Sinead Guy, and McDonough. The final score was 122-80.

The Saints will compete in two more dual meets this season, Monday, January 16 at Fairfield at 1 p.m. and Saturday, January 21 at 1 p.m. at Saint Francis (PA) before the MAAC Championships in February.
