Match One Final Stats

Siena Volleyball wrapped up their time at the Syracuse Tournament with matches against Grand Canyon and Colgate. The Saints were swept 3-0 in both matches.

Match One against Grand Canyon - Siena Volleyball dropped their first match of the day 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-12) to Grand Canyon. Nicole Deobler again led the Saints offensively.

Deobler recorded seven kills along with seven digs and two blocks. Dakota Jackson tallied five kills and five digs in the match. Tyla Parker dished out 14 assists for the Saints (0-2).

Claire Kovensky tallied 10 kills for Grand Canyon (2-0), while Randahl Power added seven. Heidi Carpenter dished out 24 assists, while Kayla Redfield added 11.

After taking the first point of the set, Siena watch Grand Canyon take a 3-1 lead. They would come right back, but not before the Lopes went on a 4-0 run for a 9-4 lead. Grand Canyon would add another 4-0 run to the books for a 15-9 lead later in the first set. The Saints would record their own 4-0 run and cut the lead 18-15 where Grand Canyon would call a timeout. The Lopes would finish the set with another 4-0 run for a 25-16 first set victory.

The Lopes would start the second set with the first three points behind the serving of Carpenter. After taking a quick 7-1 lead the Saints would call a timeout. Grand Canyon continued to add onto their lead and never let Siena get within five. The Lopes strung together another line of runs to take the second set 25-15 to go up 2-0 in the match.

It was another quick start for Grand Canyon in the third set as they began with a 4-0 lead. The Saints would come back and bring themselves back 9-5, but the Lopes took advantage of a 10-1 run to take a 22-10 advantage over Siena. The Lopes sealed the victory with a kill from Melody Horton for a 25-12 win in the third set.

Match Two against Colgate - Siena rounded out their first road tournament of the 2017 season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-13) loss to Colgate.

Tyla Parker recorded her first collegiate double-double as she dished out 10 assists and picked up 10 digs. Jackson and Deobler both recorded five kills a piece for the Saints (0-3).

Katie Stansbury and Jaelah Hutchison recorded nine kills a piece for Colgate (2-0). Lauren Sanderson dished out 35 assists, while Peighton McRobie added 17 digs in the victory. Behind the serving of Parker, the Saints started off the match on a 3-0 run. Siena remained in front holding an 8-5 lead over the Raiders. Colgate then went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-9 lead and never looked back. Siena continued to battle and chipped away at the lead, but Colgate took the first set 25-18.

The Raiders started off the second set with a 7-1 advantage over Siena. The Saints would chip away and would trail just 9-4, but Colgate battled and let 13-4. It would be a quick set for the Raiders to take a victory over Siena 25-7 and lead the match 2-0.

Colgate used the momentum from their first two sets to propel them early to a 7-2 lead in the third set. The Raiders used a 5-0 run to push them to a 16-6 lead late in the third set. Colgate would not give up the lead and forced the Saints to battle. The Raiders would take the third set and match with a 25-13 victory.

The Saints head to New Brunswick, New Jersey for a midweek battle with Big Ten opponent Rutgers on Wednesday, August 30. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
