Volleyball Opens Holly Young Invitational With Loss to UNH

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Holly Young Invitational host New Hampshire swept Siena Volleyball 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-21). Four-time defending America East Champions New Hampshire used 49 kills compared to the Saints 29 to take the victory in Siena's opening match of the tournament.

Dakota Jackson and Antonija Ivanovic each recorded eight kills for the Saints (0-9). Freshman setter Jessica Eblin dished out 26 assists for Siena.

Gabri Olhava had a match-high 13 kills for New Hampshire (3-9). The team dished out 47 assists compared to the Saints 27.

Siena kept it tight to start the first set against four-time America East Champion UNH until the Wildcats ran away on a 7-3 run to take a decisive 15-12 lead. After the Saints used their first timeout of the set, UNH followed that up with a 3-1 run for an 18-13 lead. Siena started their comeback and would trail by just two, 22-20. The Wildcats then took the next three points take the first set 25-20.

The second set was a battle between the two teams as the score would be tied 11 times and their would be six lead changes throughout the set. UNH led 22-20 late in the set as the Saints would use their second timeout. After three Wildcat attack errors, a UNH service error and Siena service error, the Saints would lead 24-23. UNH then called timeout and would take the next three points to take the tight set 26-24.

UNH came into the third set riding off a strong second set and took a quick 10-5 lead. This was a hard fought battle for both Siena and New Hampshire, but the Wildcats held the lead 24-17. The Saints then held off the Wildcats from taking the match point as they brought it to 24-21, but off a service error UNH would grab the victory 25-21.

Siena finishes their time at the Holly Young Invitational at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, September 16 against Dartmouth at 10 a.m. and Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m.
