Siena Volleyball was swept 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-) by Niagara in the Saints second leg of their Western New York trip. Siena beat Niagara in both regular season matches last season.
Samantha Pethokoukis led the Saints (0-14, 0-3 MAAC) on offense with seven kills. Jessica Eblin dished out 14 assists for Siena.
Nicole Matheis recorded nine kills for Niagara (8-5, 4-0 MAAC), while Grace Hetterscheidt tallied seven. Alexis Gray tallied 13 assists for the Purple Eagles
Niagara started off quickly with a 7-1 lead in the first set. The Purple Eagles would hold the Saints off 20-7 before taking the final five points to take the first set 25-7.
The Purple Eagles used their momentum from the first set into the second set and quickly led 9-1 over Siena. The Saints trailed 14-4 before Niagara went on a 6-0 run to lead 20-4. Siena began their comeback, but not before the Purple Eagles hit 25 points to take the second set 25-11.
Siena started the third set off strong and led 4-2 early. Both teams would exchange points back and forth until the Purple Eagles took a 10-8 lead and never looked back. The Saints would chip away at the lead, but Niagara led 21-18 before taking the next four points to complete the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
The Saints will travel to Hamden, Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac on Wednesday, September 27. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
