Three of the five members of Siena Women's Golf's competing team registered birdies in day one of the 2018 Brown Bear Invitational in Seekonk, Massachusetts Sunday. The team began play at the tournament hosted by Brown University with 11 other squads, participating in the last of their five-event slate during the Fall 2018 season.
Overall, the Saints sit in 11th place after one round of play at the 36-hole event, shooting +30, 318 as a team to begin play at the par-72, 6,123-yard course at the Ledgemont Country Club.
Reigning
MAAC Golfer of the Month Sara Riso steadied the squad during its first 18 holes, carding a birdie on hole 17 to go +3, 75 on the day, landing in a 10-way split for 21st place. Fellow senior
Ashley Nguyen followed in the standings, shooting a team-best two holes under-par to finish with a +7, 79, good for a tie for 36th.
Sophomores
Grace Cuttone and
Abigail Chai-Onn each finished +9, 81 in the tournament's opening round, placing the pair in a six-way split for 51st place along with golfers from Wagner, Lehigh and MAAC for Quinnipiac. Freshman
Lena Kaufman rounded out the team's competition squad, posting a T10, 82 to tie for 58th place.
Heading into the final round of play, Fairleigh Dickinson leads the pack after carding +9, 297, while host Brown sits three strokes back in second place.
Siena will tee off for its final round of Fall competition on Monday, Oct. 15,in a shotgun start beginning at 9:15 a.m.
