Antonija Ivanovic and sophomore JoJo Ishida collected five digs apiece.
For Canisius (10-10, 8-3), Melina Woods topped all players with a match-high 10 kills. Her and Vazquez paced the Griffins offense, as she also hit .500. "At virtually every level of the game, teams that serve well and pass well tend to be successful," said head coach
Vilis Ozols. "We struggled in both those areas today and it showed. Even with that we had a couple of nice moments today."
The Saints fell behind early in the first set, as Canisius pulled away fast with a 13-3 lead midway through. The Griffs would finish it off, hitting .565 in the set to take it 25-6 to take a 1-0 lead. The second set would be much of the same, as a 6-0 run that included three aces ended the first set 25-10 for a 2-0 Griffs lead.
In the third set, the Saints jumped out to the early 4-1 lead, as they looked to take a set. Despite the early lead, Canisius bounced back and jumped ahead in the set. However, Siena was able to take advantage of multiple Golden Griffin errors. Even with Canisius pulling away from a 10-7 score with a 14-5 run to set up match point, the Saints grabbed a trio of points before the Griffs shut the door taking the set 25-15. The win would give them the match, 3-0.
The Saints return to the floor tomorrow, Sunday, October 21 when they stay out west to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles. First serve goes up at 1 p.m.
