Women’s Basketball Tops Franklin Pierce in Exhibition

Saints Open Regular Season Nov. 10 against Penn

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Saints women's basketball program gave their fans a first look at their 2018-19 squad on Saturday afternoon, as the green and gold defeated Franklin Pierce University Ravens by a final score of 76-51 in their final exhibition before the commencement of their season next weekend.

Junior Sabrina Piper led the way for Siena with 21 total points, also grabbing six rebounds and tossing out three assists. Piper went 7-for-12 from the floor, including draining all six of her free throws on the afternoon. Junior Maddie Sims also chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds, while freshman Margo Peterson added 14 points, going 3-for-6 from behind the three-point arc. Freshman Amari Anthony had a strong day on the boards with seven rebounds, and redshirt senior Joella Gibson added a team-high three steals.

For Franklin Pierce, junior Mya Mosley and sophomore Hannah Everidge each put up 13 points, as they drained five of the team's six three pointers in the contest. Mosley also collected team-high's in rebounds with five, and steals with three.

Siena held the Ravens to just 15 points in the first half, as the Ravens scored halfway through the first quarter and only had two field goals in the quarter. A Sims three pointer kicked off the scoring for Siena, with Piper picking up the scoring from there, as she had nine of the team's first 18 points.

Franklin Pierce put the Siena lead to seven at the start of the third quarter, as Mosley got going in the scoring. With 7:49 remaining in the second, that would be the last field goal for the Ravens the rest of the way until the half. The Saints opened up an 18-0 run the rest of the quarter to grab a 38-15 lead going into the half.

The Saints kept the offense flowing in the second half, as Peterson found her groove. Despite Franklin Pierce also picking things up on offense, Siena's lead steadily grew over the third quarter. Peterson knocked down back-to-back three's between the end of the third and to open the fourth to open up Siena's biggest lead of the afternoon at 34 points. The Saints would continue to be aggressive over the final minutes of the quarter, as they took home a 25 point victory.

Overall, the Saints shot 40 percent from the floor, and were exceptional at the line, going 20-for-23 for an 87 percent clip. Siena was able to get to the line more than the Ravens, as well force Franklin Pierce into more turnovers with 18.

The Saints open up their regular season Saturday, Nov. 10 when they play host to the Penn Quakers at The ARC. The opening tip is set for a 2 p.m. start.
