Deja Rawls pumped in a career-high 21 points, as the Siena Saints women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 77-68 victory on the road against the Monmouth Hawks. With the win, the Saints improve to 8-9 on the year, and 4-2 in MAAC play as they shot 46.3 percent from the floor.
Siena took advantage of 21 Monmouth turnovers, turning them into 23 points. The Green and Gold also were able to get to the free throw line, going to the line for 35 attempts in the game and creating another 23 points from the charity stripe.
Rawls added four rebounds, three steals, and a pair of assists to her resume for the night. Junior

Aaliyah Jones also stepped up big, as Sims dropped 17 points with seven rebounds, while Jones snagged 15 points, a season-high five steals, five rebounds, and three assists. Junior
Sabrina Piper also ended up in double-figures, putting up 12 points in the victory.
Monmouth was led by the hot hand of Sierra Green, who drained five three pointers on the game for a team-high 17 points. Lucy Thomas and Alexa Middleton each collected double-doubles in the effort for Monmouth, as Thomas scored 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Middleton scored 10 points and 10 rebounds before she fouled out in the fourth quarter.
The Saints struggled early, as turnovers and cold shooting gave Monmouth an early lead by as much as ten points with 2:05 remaining in the first quarter. Siena brought it back to a six-point deficit before the buzzer, as Piper found Sims for a layup before the buzzer.
Down five points at the 4:34 mark in the second quarter, the Saints went on a 9-0 run to take a four point lead over a span of two minutes, capped by a three-pointer from Jones. Despite Monmouth tying up the game with 38 seconds to go before the half, Piper would score a layup with 12 seconds to go. Jones would also draw a foul on a rebound on a Monmouth missed attempt led to a four point lead for the Saints going into the locker room, as Jones knocked down both free throws.
The pace picked up to start the third quarter, as both teams came out flying with points. Siena would get a lead out to 10 before Monmouth came storming back to cut the lead to one point, 50-49 at the quarter's media timeout with four minutes remaining on the clock. Green would be a big part of that for the Hawks, scoring 12 of her 17 points in the third quarter alone. Both sides combined for a total 45 points in the quarter, as Siena clung to a one-point lead, 57-56 headed into the final 10 minutes of play.
Siena would take over in the fourth quarter, using another 9-0 in their favor to open up an eight-point lead with 6:34 to go. Redshirt senior
Joella Gibson would lead the Saints into the lead with a big steal with a five-point lead, drawing a foul and going to the line to extend the lead. Rawls would take over down the stretch, scoring six points in the final two minutes to build an 11-point lead for Siena, and locking down the win.
In part to big scoring days from Sims and Piper, the Saints owned the paint scoring, topping the Hawks in that department 40-32. Siena also held the Hawks down on offense, holding Monmouth to a 36.6 percent shooting day from the floor.
The Saints return to the floor Friday, Jan. 25 when they head to Connecticut to face Quinnipiac. Tip off with the first-place Bobcats will be at 11 a.m.
