SCHENECTADY - The Siena Saints women's tennis team took sweep to a whole new level on Saturday afternoon, as they did not surrender a single set in their 7-0 defeat over the Rider Broncs at Central Park. Siena has now won both of their fall duel matches, and have a 1-0 record heading into the spring season.
Leading the way at No. 1 singles and doubles was sophomore
Meagan Brown, who helped set the table with wins at both spots. She would win in her singles match by a final score of 6-3, 6-1, while pairing up with freshman
Anastasia Koniaev to take a doubles victory 6-4. Also in doubles at the No. 2 spot, senior
Juliana Goehner and junior
Nanea Perkins took a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point. Rider would forfeit at No. 3 doubles, giving the Green and Gold a win in each doubles match.
In singles play behind Brown at one, freshman
Maanya Viswanath continued her strong play since entering the lineup, winning 6-3, 6-4 in front of Perkins at No. 3 who won 6-1, 6-0. Goehner and Koniaev each won at No. 4 and No. 5, while Rider forfeited at No. 6, giving the win to sophomore
Sarah Marro.
The Saints have the rest of the fall off, returning to play on Friday, Jan. 31 when they hit the road to to take on Saint Joseph's. The match will be a night time matchup, with things kicking off at 9:15 PM.
