Despite outscoring the Harvard Crimson in the second half by a 40-31 score, the late push would fall short for the Siena Saints as they fell in Cambridge by a final score of 68-51. Senior
Sabrina Piper led the Green and Gold in scoring for the third straight game, putting up a team-high 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Behind Piper's performance was freshman
Julia Hauer, who collected her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The first-year also added a trio assists, while sophomore
Amari Anthony matched Hauer's 14 points, setting a new career record in the process as she knocked down 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Junior
Marilena Gerostergiou tossed in eight points with eight rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist.
The Crimson were led by a 17-point performance from Tess Sussman, who also added five assists to her resume. Mackenzie Barta would score 16 for Harvard, and Jeannie Boehm would snag 14 rebounds with 8 points. Maggie McCarthy scored 11 points and snagged eight rebounds for the Crimson.
Siena forced a trio of early turnovers and led Harvard 7-6 into the first media timeout with 3:54 to go in the first quarter thanks to five points from Piper. But the Saints would go cold from the field over the rest of the half, landing just one field goal and a pair free throws to trail 37-11 at the midway point.
The Saints opened the second half with back-to-back threes from Piper and Anthony, outscoring the Crimson 13-4 over a span of four plus minutes. That would lead to the Saints outscoring the Crimson 20-18 in the third quarter, and 20-13 in the fourth quarter. Anthony would score all 14 of her points in the second half, with 11 coming in the third quarter.
The Crimson outpaced the Saints in the paint 22-16, and also had a slight edge in points off turnovers, 16-14.
The Green and Gold return to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they return to Loudonville for their first game in the Alumni Recreation Center this year. The Green and Gold will take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers, with tip-off at 7 p.m.
