Saints to Face Ivy League Foe at Historic Palestra

It's been 18 years since the Siena Saints women's basketball program had made an appearance on the road at Penn. They will make their second appearance in program history on Saturday, as they will take on the Quakers at the historic Palestra at 12 PM. The last time Siena played at The Palestra was Dec. 29, 2001, as they took a win over the Quakers by a final score of 73-65.

Ten things you need to know in Siena's game vs. Penn:
  • Siena is 11-32 in road opening games and have lost their last four matchups in that regard.
  • The Green and Gold's last road opening victory came on Nov. 14, 2014 in a 58-50 road win at the University of Buffalo.
  • 2019-20 is the second season in a row that Siena has played consecutive non-conference games against opponents from the same conference. In 2018-19, Siena faced St. Bonaventure and UMass from the A-10 in consecutive games. This season, the Green and Gold will face Penn and Harvard from the Ivy League in consecutive games.
  • All time against the Ivy League, Siena stands at 19-14 overall. The only two Ivy League schools that Siena has a losing record against is Penn and Harvard.
  • Freshman Julia Hauer sank 11 points in her collegiate debut Tuesday versus Binghamton. Her total was the most points in a collegiate debut since Margot Hetzke scored 29 against Buffalo on Nov. 14, 2014 in a 58-50 Siena win.
  • Junior Marilena Gerostergiou tied a career-high with 11 points in 29 minutes versus Binghamton on Tuesday.
  • Siena will play only three home non-conference games in a nine-game slate before MAAC play. The Green and Gold will face Sacred Heart (Nov. 16) and UAlbany (Dec. 7) in the ARC after playing Binghamton to open their 2019-20 campaign.
  • Six of Siena's nine non-conference games are return matches of a year ago. Repeat opponents are Penn, Harvard, Sacred Heart, Florida Atlantic, Colgate, and UMass. Among those six teams, the Saints went 2-4 in 2018-19 against those teams, defeating Colgate and UMass. Both of those victories came in Loudonville in the ARC.
  • Siena currently has six players hail outside the United States, the most ever in program history. The six are the most on a roster since the Green and Gold had four in 2002-03.
  • Senior Sabrina Piper was an essential part of the Siena game in 2018-19, as she was only Saint to appear and start in all 30 games. She accrued over 1,000 minutes, averaging 33.4 minutes per game.
