Women’s Basketball Falls at Colgate

Saints Return to Floor After Break, Fall to Raiders

After a two-week break in between games, the Siena Saints returned to the court on Wednesday night at Colgate. The Saints would fall to the Raiders by a final score 88-51.
 
Leading Colgate on the night was senior Rachel Thompson, as she scored 19 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Abby Schubiger chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds. Senior Tegan Graham pitched in with 14 points for the Raiders, also snagging eight rebounds.
 
Siena was led by an 18-point, six rebound performance from senior Sabrina Piper. Junior Rayshel Brown added a 15-point showing in her Siena debut. Sophomore Lala Watts snagged a team-high eight rebounds over the four frames. As a team, the Green and Gold shot 28.1 percent from the floor, but collected a 78.3 percentage from the free throw line, going 18-for-23.
 
The Saints struggled on the offensive end in the first half while Colgate jumped out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter. Siena would get things going on both offense and defense in the second quarter, as the Saints clawed back within 11 points after holding the Raiders scoreless over a period of 2:38. However, Colgate ended the half on an 8-0 run while the Saints didn't score over the final 4:30 of the half.
 
In the second half, Colgate extended their lead scoring a game-high 28 points in the third quarter, despite the Saints scoring 14 in the third frame. In the fourth, the Saints were able to cause four turnovers and score a game-high 19 points in the final 10 minutes.
 
The Saints return to the floor this Saturday, Dec. 7 when they return to the Alumni Recreation Center to take on UAlbany in the Crosstown Showdown presented by Stuyvesant Plaza. Limited tickets remain for the game, as the matchup will tip off at 2 p.m.
