Women’s Basketball Set for Crosstown Showdown with UAlbany

Alumni Recreation Center Sold Out In Anticipation of Capital Region Bragging Rights

LOUDONVILLE, NY – With a capacity crowd of 2,148 people in the stands for the Crosstown Showdown presented by Stuyvesant Plaza, the Siena Women's Basketball and UAlbany are set for Saturday's 2 p.m tip-off at the Alumni Recreation Center.

For those who have tickets for the game, doors to the Alumni Recreation Center will open at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, and the first 500 guests in attendance will receive a FREE Siena rally towel.

Saturday's capacity crowd of 2,148 will mark the facility's first official sellout since the seating reconfiguration. It will be the seventh largest crowd ever for a Siena Women's Basketball game at the ARC overall, and the largest crowd since 2,368 fans cheered on the Saints when they hosted Fairfield for a Kid's Day game on Jan. 10, 2013.

2019-20 Siena Women's Basketball season and individual game tickets are also currently on-sale now. Season tickets for all remaining home games at the Alumni Recreation Center start at just $70 for reserved chair back seating, with courtside seats only $100. Individual game tickets are priced at $10 for adult chair back seats, $8 for both adult and senior general admission, and $5 for children's tickets. Both Siena Women's Basketball season and individual game tickets can be purchased by contacting the Siena Fan Relations Management Center during traditional business hours Monday-Friday at (518) 487-2202, online at sienasaints.com/tickets, or by e-mail at sienatickets2@siena.edu.

Siena is looking to snag their second win of the season, while also doing so for the second time in the Alumni Recreation Center. Despite coming off tough back-to-back losses on the road to Florida Atlantic and Colgate, the Saints previously defeated Sacred Heart at home on Nov. 16 by a final score of 68-57.

In the series history, Siena and UAlbany will be squaring off for the 22nd time on Saturday evening, with Ali Jaques holding an 0-6 against the Great Danes as a head coach. However, this will be the first matchup against UAlbany at the Alumni Recreation Center under the leadership of Jaques. Overall in the previous six matchups, Jaques is 0-5 at the Times Union Center and 0-1 at SEFCU Arena. Colleen Mullen is appearing in her first game as head coach against the Saints.

The Saints and the Great Danes will pick their Capital Region clash back up after taking a hiatus during the 2018-19 campaign. UAlbany holds an 11-10 advantage in the all-time series and has captured the last eight head-to-head meetings. Siena last took home a win in the rivalry in 2009. The series dates back to 1975. The Crosstown Showdown is being held in the Alumni Recreation Center on Siena's campus for the first time since 1980. With the exception of 2016's meeting at UAlbany's SEFCU arena, all other games were held in downtown Albany at the Times Union Center.

With just 6.5 miles separating the two schools, Siena and UAlbany are the third closest NCAA Division I school duo to each other in the state of New York. The institutions have faced off in all 16 current sports that both sponsor, and have been competing against each other since Siena's men's basketball squad took a win in 1939.

The last time these two teams met was back on Dec. 9, 2017. Tiana Jo-Carter led UAlbany with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Mackenzie Trpcic added 16 after hitting four from behind the arc. Jessica Fequiere and Patricia Conroy tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively. Aaliyah Jones led Siena with 15 points, seven of which came in the first quarter. Deja Rawls added 12 on an impressive 5-for-7 (.714) shooting from the field. Emmanuella Edoka recorded 11 points, with seven off of free-throws. In the final quarter, UAlbany would push their to 20 points,76-56, with just under four minutes to play. Siena hit eight of their 20 free throws during the frame, with Edoka hitting five of her seven free throws. Siena and the Great Danes both scored 17, but UAlbany would claim the win 78-63.
