BOSTON, MA– Siena Track & Field senior Evans Kibet took down his second school record of the 2019-20 running season Saturday afternoon, doing so at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University.
Kibet's mark of 8:19.23 in the men's 3000m run beat out the previous record of 8:21 set by Siena hall of famer Tom Dalton in 1980 for the program record in that event. The Nandi Hills, Kenya native placed eighth overall in the event, representing the men's indoor track squad as its only member competing.
"It was definitely a solid start for Evans in a new track event for him," Head Coach John Kenworthy said. "I'm happy that we extended his fall season and that he was able to get the Ic4A standard and the school record, but there is much more work to do once he starts up his track training in 2020!"
Kibet was joined by women's indoor track members Sydney Johnson and Olivia Lomascolo in competing at the meet, which acts as the first of three indoor track meets at BU that the Saints will travel to during the upcoming season.
Lomascolo placed 23rd overall in the women's 3000m run, logging a 10:04.24 for the second-fastest time run in program history in the event. Johnson participated in the 5000m run, recording a time of 17:41.81 for a 48th place finish.
The event marked the conclusion of the 2019 calendar year for the Siena track programs, with the next indoor action taking place on January 11, 2020 at the Great Dane Classic in Staten Island, NY.
