Taking the course for a shotgun start in the Sunshine State, Siena Women's Golf wrapped play at the MSU Citrus Classic in Sorrento, Florida Tuesday. The Saints replicated their round two result, shooting +28, 316 to finish in eighth place overall with +80, 944. The result marked the best 54-hole performance for the team since their opening tournament of the 2014-15 campaign, where they shot 938 at the Bucknell Women's Invitational.
Murray State won the tournament at the par-72, 5929-yard Red Tail Golf Club, shooting +9, 873 to hold at least a 17-strike lead on the rest of the field. The Green and Gold finished seven strokes off Lipscomb (+71, 935) and eight in front of host Morehead State (+88, 952).
Rebounding of a tough outing on Monday, senior co-captain
Sara Riso shot +5, 77 on her third go-around, taking the low score of the day. Riso joined sophomores
Abigail Chai-Onn and
Grace Cuttone, who each shot +6, 78 in the final round, in finishing in a tie for 23rd with +16, 232 on the week. Senior
Ashley Nguyen carded +11, 83 in the final round to land in 48th place (+32, 248), while freshman
Lena Kaufman went +13, 85 on the day to conclude play in a split for 50th with +38, 258.
Following the result, Siena will return to the northeast to continue its Spring 2019 schedule. The Saints will next head to Milford, CT to take part in the Sacred Heart Spring Invite April 7-8.
