Wrapping up play at the Lonnie Barton Invitational for what has been the fifth straight year at the event, Siena Women's Golf finished third out of 14 teams. The Saints shot +32, 320 in round two to finish +58, 634 on the week, recording their second top-3 finish of the 2018-19 season and beating out MAAC foe Fairfield (seventh, +74, 650). The result was also good for the team's best at the LIU Brooklyn-hosted event since also taking third in 2015.
Coming off an 18-hole best in round one, sophomore
Grace Cuttone shot +8, 80 to finish in a tie for eighth place individually. Cuttone was joined by senior captain
Sara Riso in finishing top-10, with the Hamburg NY native tying Cuttone and Bethune-Cookman's Isabell Friberg at +10, 154 after shooting a team-best +5, 77 on the day.
Rounding out the Saints' five-man competition team was senior
Ashley Nguyen, along with sophomore
Abigail Chai-Onn and freshman
Lena Kaufman. Chai-Onn moved up 10 spots in day two with a +8, 80 to finish in a tie with Long Island's Aida Gonzalez for 33rd, while Kaufman went for +11, 83 to conclude play in a three-way split for 35th. Nguyen shot +15, 85, splitting with Wagner's Georgia Naples for 43rd place individually.
Competing as an individual, junior
Marisa Fiorina finished in a three-way tie for 55th, shooting +15, 87 in round two and +29, 173 on the week.
Following the first tournament of the new year, Siena will have next weekend off before heading back to the Sunshine State to compete in the MSU Citrus Classic in Sorrento, FL, March 17-19, hosted by Morehead State.
