Competing head-to-head for the second time in the 2018-19 campaign, Siena Women's Golf avenged its season-opening loss to Capital Region rival the University at Albany by tying them in the second installment of the Crosstown Challenge. Competing in match play at the Wolfert's Roost Country Club, the Saints and the Great Danes each won three matches to secure the first split in the history of the series.
With the match serving as the final dress rehearsal for the conference foes prior to next week's MAAC Championship, the Saints saw a pair of 1-up wins, as well as a 3 and 2 triumph. Senior
Sara Riso took down Megan Henry, while sophomore
Abigail Chai-Onn defeated Madison Walker, with the two matches part of three on the day that were decided on the 18th hole. Chai-Onn picked up the third head-to-head win of the day for the Green and Gold, beating UAlbany's Pasqualina Tartaglione.
The split snapped a five match losing streak for the Saints that dated back to October 16, 2011. UAlbany had previously taken a 300-332 match play victory earlier this year on September 9, 2018.
Following the conclusion to Siena's 2018-19 regular season slate, the Saints will now gear up for their 21st year of competition at the MAAC Championship, held this year at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida April 18-20. With a conference-leading 13 championships to their name, the Green and Gold will look to build on a fifth place finish in 2018.
