Siena Softball's
Maddie McMahon became the first pitcher in since 2014 and just the third in program history to take home multiple MAAC weekly awards in a single season Tuesday afternoon. The junior picked up her second MAAC Pitcher of the Week honor after closing out the 2019 regular season with a gem inside the circle to help the Saints lock up the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
Making a pair of starts in the final conference weekend of the year, McMahon put forth an 0.60 ERA and a 2-0 record in 15 innings, allowing just a single run on seven hits. The Red Bank, New Jersey native struck out 14 while issuing just three walks, including taking down a career-high 11 batters via the strikeout in an extra inning win over Saint Peter's on May 6. McMahon pitched 5.1 innings of perfect ball in the game, while becoming just the sixth player in program history to reach 300 career strikeouts, and the seventh to eclipse 105 K's in a single season.
Heading into 2019 postseason play, McMahon sits at third in program history in career shutouts (7), fifth in wins (29), sixth in strikeouts (203), seventh in games started (53) and eighth in innings pitched (335.1). She is one of just four Siena pitchers to register 12 or more wins in a single season and joins
Tara Campbell (2004) and
Jessika-Jo Sandrini (2014) as the only pitchers to pick up multiple MAAC weekly awards in a season. McMahon and senior
Madysen Cossack have now each won two Player or Pitcher of the week accolades in 2019, signaling the first time in program history that multiple players have won awards more than once in a campaign.
McMahon, Cossack and the rest of the Saints enter the 2019 MAAC Championship as the No. 3 seed, and will take on No. 6 Fairfield in the first round on Wednesday, May 8 at 11 AM in Poughkeepsie, NY.
