Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cornell Edges Saints

Late First Half Goal the Difference in Evenly Contested Match

Naomi Jaffe's goal in the final minute of the first half proved to be the difference in an otherwise evenly played match, as Cornell edged Siena Women's Soccer 1-0 in Ithaca. The Big Red harbored a slim 15-13 margin in shots, while the Saints held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Cornell (2-0) struck with just 41 seconds remaining in the first half with the decisive blow. Nicole Long fed Jaffe whose sharp angle shot from along the end line snuck inside the far post.

Siena (0-4) pushed hard at the end, and registered nine second half shots, but was unable to find the elusive equalizer. Darby D'Angelo led all players with four shots, three of which she put on target.

Taylor Dorado made five saves for the Saints to move into fourth place on the program's all-time list with 280 career saves.

Chrissy Mayer also made five stops to record the clean sheet for the Big Red.

Following a season-opening four-match road trip – tied for the program's longest-ever to open a season – Siena will return to the Capital Region and the friendly confines of Siena Field to host UMass in the home opener Thursday at 4 p.m.
