ALBANY, NY – For the first time since 2007, the crosstown showdown between Siena Women's Soccer and UAlbany ended in a draw as the rivals battled to a 1-1 tie at Casey Stadium.
Darby D'Angelo scored the tying goal in the 76
th minute and
Taylor Dorado made a season-high 11 saves for the Saints who will head back into conference action on a five-match unbeaten streak.
Both teams scored on second half penalty kicks as the squads finished deadlocked for just the third time in 24 all-time meetings. Defending America East Champion and preseason favorite UAlbany (4-3-2) held a 25-16 advantage in shots, while both sides registered four corners apiece.
The Great Danes were awarded a penalty kick in the 64
th minute, which Leah Pais converted to open the scoring. But with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation,
Jayanna Monds was taken down in the box following a long run. D'Angelo then stepped up and calmly finished the PK to knot the score on her first tally of the season.
UAlbany out-shot Siena (2-5-3) 20-9 following halftime, but Dorado made eight of her 11 saves over the final 65 minutes as the Saints improved to 2-0-3 over their last five contests.
Sophia Chen made five saves for the Great Danes which ran their unbeaten streak to six (5-0-1).
Siena is now set to resume league action for good when the Saints host Saint Peter's in their MAAC home opener Saturday at 1 p.m.
