LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Golf will commence its 25th season in program history against a local rival this weekend in Albany, New York. The Saints are set to face off with cross-town foe UAlbany in the annual Crosstown Challenge on Sunday, September 8 at Wolferts Roost Country Club.
Follow the Saints as they tee off this weekend and all season long at SienaSaints.com and on social media. Live updates from Sunday's match will be available by following the official Siena Women's Golf Twitter account, @SienaWomensGolf.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the Saints and the Great Danes will embark on 18 holes at the par-70, 5237-yard course with the low four scores from each team counting towards their total mark. UAlbany has bested Siena in fall match play in each of the last three seasons, including a 300-332 victory last September.
Coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2019 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Siena returns four golfers from last season, including 2019 All-Championship Team finisher Abigail Chai-Onn, who concluded the 2018-19 season in a four-way tie for sixth place.
The Green and Gold enter the 2019-20 campaign led by captain and lone senior Marisa Fiorina, who competed in four events last season. The Saints also bring back junior Grace Cuttone and sophomore Lena Kaufman, who both saw substantial playing time last season and competed at the 2019 MAC Championships.
Rounding out this year's squad are three incoming freshmen, who will see action for the first time in their collegiate careers on Sunday. Newcomers Isabella Diaz, Kaity Rittner and Ashlee Sample each took home amateur or regional championships at some point in their high school careers and will add much-needed depth to the squad, which looks to make up for the loss of seniors Sara Riso and Ashley Nguyen.
Following its season opener, Siena will take part in four regionally-based tournaments over the next month-and-a-half, with stops at Dartmouth, Boston College, Hartford and Lehigh all expected to test the squad.
