LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Swimming & Diving (2-5) won three events in its return to the pool Saturday afternoon, taking on Vermont (3-4) at the Siena Swim Center in its first action of the Spring 2020 leg of its season. The Saints fell, 191-100 to the Catamounts in its second of three home meets that it will host this season.
Vermont jetted out to a quick start in the dual meet competition, winning five of the first six events before the first diving break of the day. Junior Shannon Leary took home the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:10.48 for the first Saints' event win of the day.
Leary was joined by freshman Jessica Shine in winning a swimming event in the pool, with Shine swimming a 1:00.11 in the 100-yard butterfly to take home the top spot. Freshman diver Lydia DeLano set a personal best score during her win in the 3-meter diving competition racking up 252.46 points to best three Vermont divers in the event.
DeLano was one of three Saints who walked away from the meet with a personal best time, with classmates Emma Mauro (1:02.17, 100 free) and Lauren Ostrander (500 free, 5:23.11) also doing so.
Siena's pairing of Leary, Shine, sophomore Isabel Harms and freshman Rory Kalac took home second place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.51), while the group of Shine, Kalac and seniors Rachel Brown and Alyssa Lewis took second in the 200-yard free relay (1:41.94).
Siena will be back in action next Saturday, January 18, when it travels to Milford, CT to take on Sacred Heart at 12:30 PM.
