After putting together two straight wins at the Alumni Recreation Center to start the season, the Saints dropped their first game in their Loudonville confines on Thursday night by a 65-35 final score to the Fairfield Stags. The Saints were led by a 10 point, eight rebound night from seniorÂ
Sabrina Piper. JuniorÂ
Rayshel Brown chipped in with eight rebounds. Sophomore Lala Watts chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and three blocks.
Siena will look to avoid going 0-2 to start conference play for the first time since 2014-15, when they began the MAAC slate 0-3. That season, the Saints would also lose to Fairfield and Quinnipiac, and then lose the third game to Marist. Siena would make their run with the "Magnificent 7" later in the season en route to the WBI title game where they would fall to Louisiana-Lafayette. That team would finish the season 22-13 overall with an 11-9 mark in the MAAC.
Â
The last time these two teams met was last season on Mar. 2, 2019. The Saints would fall 67-38 on Senior Day, as Jones finished with seven points and four rebounds, whileÂ
Amari Anthony led the team in rebounds with seven. For Quinnipiac, Jen Fay notched a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds on 10-for-13 shooting from the floor. Brittany Martin tossed in 18 points for the Bobcats, with Paula Strautmane added 11 points and three assists.
Â
Quinnipiac is coming off a loss to the Iona Gaels on Thursday evening, as the loss snapped a 49-game MAACÂ regular season win streak. Senior guard Taylor Herd has was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team, with senior forward Paige Warfel and junior Shaq Edwards also earning individual honors. Each of them were selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team. Overall in 13 previous contests, the Bobcats have won all 13 matchups against the Saints since they joined the league back in 2013-14. Prior to that season, neither program had faced each other.
